THE SUNby Joyce Wiggins, Sheraldi Sadler, and Shellena AlcindorInside, hydrogen nuclei and single protons crash together and build up into helium nuclei. Every second four million tons of hydrogen vanish and generate the sun's energy. This energy radiates out wards from the core, in the layers below the photosphere, rows of hot gas rise to the surface and then fall again as they cool. The sun's surface is seized with hot gas bubbling up to create model patterns called granulation, each cell is hundreds of kilometers across. Jets of incondescent gas called spicules, spicules shoots up flames thousands of kilometers high. In disturb areas sunspots appear often in pairs or groups. They look dark because they are thousands of degrees cooler than it's surroundings.Huge promonances vaster than the whole of the Earth can erupt from active areas in the sun. Solar flares are the most intense burst of energy, they can blast atomic particles as far as the Earth and beyond. The sun has a magnetic field that is five times stronger than the Earth. The sun magnetism controls the appearance of sunspots. The sun spins about once a month but rate varies with latitude. Each magnetic field lines is tied into fabric of the sun. Here's is a little bit of information on the sun. |
