POLARIS, the north star

By Duchesse Rodnez, Tuere Allwood, and Calvin Pierre

When it is a clear night try going outside to see the wonders of the universe that is there to behold. At a look to the north, about two and a half fists up from the horizon, the bright and amazing North Star is seen. This star has been the guiding light to many a lost sailor for centuries past and for centuries to come. It is the brightest star in it's constellation. This famous star is scientifically known as Polaris.

Polaris can be found in the Ursa Minor constellation. This constellation is probably better known as the Little Dipper. Polaris lies within one degree of the North Celestial Pole. It is a fluctuating star in that every four days it changes it's magnitude, color, and it's size. In it's present life cycle, it is known as a giant star. Polaris' average high in the sky is approximately 26 degrees.

Polaris is justifiably one of the most recognized stars of humanity. It has presided in our universe for a long period of time. Hopefully it will still amaze navigators and star gazers around the world continously. Polaris will always be known as the prime tour guide. When you need help, look to the north!
